Healthcare Should Never Be a Journey of Survival

No mother should go into labour wondering whether the nearest functioning health facility is too far away. No child should become critically ill because basic treatment, essential medicine, or a trained health worker was unavailable.

Yet for many families in rural and underserved communities, accessing healthcare can still involve long journeys, difficult roads, unaffordable expenses, and overstretched primary healthcare facilities.

This must change urgently.

The Southeast Community Development Forum advocates for stronger primary healthcare centres, mobile medical outreach, maternal and child health services, preventive health education, access to essential medicines, and partnerships that bring quality healthcare closer to vulnerable communities.

Healthcare is not a privilege reserved for people living in major cities. It is a fundamental right that every family deserves, regardless of income or location.

Together, we can bring care closer, prevent avoidable suffering, and ensure that no community in Igbo land is left behind.
